Hanuman Ashtak: Significance and Benefits

What is Hanuman Ashtak?

Shri Sankat Mochan Hanuman Ashtak is a form of prayer dedicated to lord hanuman. In Hindu Mythology Lord Hanuman represents strength, wisdom and power. Devotees chant Hanuman Ashtak to praise lord hanuman for everything they did while being on earth.

Ashtak is a Sanskrit word for the number eight. Number eight symbolises eight verses in Hanuman Ashtak. So there are a total of eight verses in Hanuman Ashtak. These Ashtaks symbolise the things lord hanuman did in favour of the earth and its people.

In particular, let's take the following verse of the Hanuman Ashtak;

      बाल समय रवि भक्षी लियो तब,

The above verse of Hanuman Ashtak praises the strength and power lord Hanuman possesses. It says that whosoever Chants it, all the dark and evil energies will leave them. The evil spirits or demons and whatsoever will never lay hands on them. It also says that whoever chants it, all their problems and misery will fade away eventually. The Hanuman Ashtak is written by Goswami Tulsidas.

Benefits

Speaking of benefits, if someone believes in something wholeheartedly then the belief is much more powerful than what it is you are believing in. Chanting Hanuman Ashtak is not only powerful but also has some other beneficial aspects to it, such as;

  • Provides mental peace and stability

  • Create mindfulness

  • Makes us practice gratitude by grounding us

  • Broadens our mind and thinking spectrum, as we start to believe in something majestical or beyond our crucial thinking and imagining pattern

  • Makes us more open to the mystical side of the universe
